End Cannabis Prohibition Jersey
Recommendations
for Reform.

Conclusion.

Why is cannabis illegal?

It is not reasonable to maintain the status quo.

Over the course of this presentation, End Cannabis Prohibition Jersey has provided a number of pragmatic recommendations that serve as a blueprint for cannabis reform in Jersey.

The stalk and seeds of the cannabis plant can provide innumerous sustainable end products, while the female flowers contain a plethora of compounds that are proven to be beneficial for health and well-being.

The illegalisation of cannabis has prevented modern society from benefiting from what is undoubtedly a fantastic natural resource.

Legitimate concerns regarding potential misuse, impacts upon public health, use amongst young people, etc. can all be more appropriately addressed via comprehensive regulation in conjunction with a progressive substance use strategy.

We hope that by raising awareness of cannabis issues in Jersey ahead of the upcoming elections, candidates will take them into consideration and - should they be elected - implement our recommendations for reform.

"The long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom."

Thomas Paine, Common Sense, 1776.

"Drug use is an emotional issue that touches all of us and how we believe life should be lived. Notwithstanding the conviction held by many that life is better without drug use, experience internationally and in Jersey is that most people will, on occasions, misuse psychoactive substances. It is difficult for some people to view alcohol, tobacco and prescribed drugs in the same way they do illegal substances. The reality is, these substances cause far more havoc to people's lives and increased costs in terms of health care and productivity than do illegal substances. This strategy is based on the notion that irrespective of judgements as to the worthiness of such behaviour, the prime responsibility of all of us is to ensure that the least possible harm is caused."
